Revisiting China's spatial economy: Analysing 30 years of industry agglomeration
主讲人 Hans Koster 简介
This paper investigates the role of Marshallian agglomeration forces --- input-output sharing, labour market pooling, and knowledge spillovers --- in shaping industry agglomeration in China from 1989 to 2020. We find that these forces strongly affect privately-owned manufacturing firms in ways similar to Western economies, whereas their impact on state-owned enterprises is negligible. The importance of labour market pooling declines, whereas the importance of knowledge spillovers increases over time. Labour market pooling influences the co-agglomeration of services firms. The impact of agglomeration forces on the location of primary-sector firms is minimal.
